About

This project and blog is run by Pippa Gardner. It all started after attending the Young Women's World Forum in October 2010 - I was inspired to take action to achieve true equality, especially gender equality.

The project was set up (under a previous title of 'Speak Out, Reach Out, Camp Out') with three strands: Speak Out, Reach Out, Camp Out.

Speaking out is the main method to raise awareness and inspire others. To date I've spoken to hundreds (probably thousands) of people since this project began, covering topics like my advocacy work at the UN and how we can all work together to achieve gender equality. The Speak Out strand also included this blog. The blog started in early 2011 when I was selected to be part of a World Assocaition of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts delegation to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. It followed me through a return visit in 2012, and then onwards to the Rio+20 conference and the Global Youth Forum, then to the UN General Assembly in September 2013 - where I spoke to world leaders in the inaugral meeting of the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.

Under the Reach Out banner, we have previously put on two exhibitions. The first, Role Models, took place at The Forum in Norwich in 2011. The second, We Discover, We Grow, was up at Peterborough Museum in Autumn 2013 and can be previewed on the blog. We also developed a peer educators toolkit on gender equality. The final way in which we are providing the tools for gender equality is thorough our microloan lending team on Kiva. Follow this link to get started and join our team today.

In 2011 we held a Camp Out event for 20 participants in Cambridgeshire. We learnt from each other, developed campaigning strategies and learnt about the issues we all care about. In 2012 we wanted to take this to a wider audience and so the Camp Out Take 2 programme was developed.

After a rebrand in February 2014, these strands were still a core part of the project, but now working under the banner of 'Out For Equality'. In December 2018, the project was revitalised to it's current form - scaled down to focus on creating and sharing content online.

Over the years I have learnt more about content and blogging. The blog has gone beyond documenting these travels, as I consistently see a lack of representation of marginalised communities in these fora. I am young, queer, trans, non-binary and living with disabilities, and I aim to highlight these perspectives in the blog moving forward.
