Less than a month after my return from New York, I have received the very exciting news that I will be representing WAGGGS once again this June.
This time I will be heading to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil for Rio+20 - the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development. This time advocacy work will be addressing Millennium Development Goal 7 - environmental sustainability, though there will still be a significant focus on the rights of girls and young women as well as the rest of the MDGs as thoguht is given to the new goals that may replace them post-2015.
Well, this is a seminal conference and it's operating with the strapine 'The Future We Want' - and that means not just the future that politicians want, it's the future that you want to. It doesn't matter if you can't make it to Brazil this summer - there are several other ways that you can get your voice heard.
If you are a member or work with a group of children or young people anywhere in the the world, you've still got 2 weeks to take part in WAGGGS consultation on "The world we want for our future". This consultation will provide the delegation heading to Rio with a representation of the opinions and views of other young people (particularly girls and young women) and we will be advocating based on this during the conference.
You can also find a guide to participation in Rio+20 for children and young people available to download from the WAGGGS website. This will give you information on what the conference is about, as well as details of ways you are able to participate - many from the comfort of your very own home.
I hope you will contribute your views so the the future you want becomes a reality!
